Studio Time

March 24th, 2011

JD here, reporting from Private Ear Studio downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada. Where the weather is cold but sunny all day. It’s almost spring which means its almost time to release the newest edition from the JD Edwards Band record collection. Looks like June is the month when the boys will be working a soft release through the summer and having a major release in the fall.
So far the record is sounding tops! With friends Jesse Ayre and Amber Neilson singing behind JD’s lead vocals, special guest horns from John Kerouac and Phil Collins, and a couple of great subtle tracks by Lloyd Peterson this record is turning out to be pretty freaking good. Just thought I would start the leaking of information on the new record. Hope you are all as excited as I am. Anyway, back to the mixing booth.

And Away We Go

February 13th, 2011

Ok, here I go. Getting in the van tomorrow morning with my good friend Big T, and making a break for the states. It’s Folk Alliance time again this year and I’m showcasing all over the joint trying to get some buzz going in the US. It’s a long 23 hour or something like that drive down to Memphis, but with some good tunes, apples and exotic sandwiches the time will pass by so quick. So folks, I off to folk with some of the best folks in folk music today. Wish me luck and I’ll see you on the other side. Cheers!

JD Edwards Loses an Organ

March 9th, 2010

Hey folks,

So, Jessee and I did go down to Memphis, TN for the Folk Alliance International Music Conference a couple of weeks ago. We had an awesome time in the Manitoba Music room, and played an awesome showcase in the Beaver Suite. We made some great friends and heard excellent music from all across Canada and the US.

Unfortunately, my time at the conference had to be cut short due to a unexpected appendectomy. Yup, I woke up on the Thursday with crazy stomach pains and by the evening I was rolling in agony all over the hotel bed. Jessee finally grabbed me out of bed, pushed me into a cab and rushed me to The MED. Early next morning I had my appendix removed and woke up in a hospital bed, having to eat terrible food and watched TV with a weird remote control that would only have one button. You flipped through the channels and the last channel would turn the TV off every rotation. But Jessee brought guests like Del Barber, Kerrie Woelke and Brent Warren to keep me company through the day. Finally , the wonderful nurses and doctors of the MED discharged me after showing them I could walk and fart.

The rest of the conference was spent in bed watching the Olympics and episodes of Big Love, which incidentally was what I was feeling from all of our friends and peers joining us in Memphis. The weekend ended and we drove home, back through the snow and wind.

It’s good to home and healed. We have some great shows this week in Dauphin and Winnipeg. Hope to see you there, I’ll show you all my scars.
